Tren Maya passenger train derails near Campeche

A passenger train on the Tren Maya network partially derailed on Monday afternoon near the San Francisco de Campeche station in Mexico. The incident occurred on the Cancun-Palenque route approximately 50 meters after the train departed the station. The derailment affected the rear car of the convoy.

There were no injuries reported among the 123 passengers on board. Following established safety protocols, the engineer stopped the train, and passengers were provided with food and water. The travelers were subsequently evacuated and transported via shuttle buses to the Edzná station, where they boarded another train to continue their journey.

The Railway Accident Investigation Commission (Comisión Dictaminadora de Accidentes Ferroviarios) has launched a technical investigation to determine the cause of the mechanical failure or track anomaly. This event marks one of several recent rail incidents involving the project, including previous derailments in Yucatán and Quintana Roo, which have fueled ongoing debates regarding the safety and construction standards of the railway network.
