Tren Patagónico derailment in Argentina caused by extreme weather
The Tren Patagónico service experienced a derailment in the early hours of the morning between Sierra Colorada and Los Menucos due to extreme weather conditions. Intense rainfall caused the embankment to wash away, leading to the derailment of the main locomotive and a cargo car on the Viedma–Bariloche route.
While 140 passengers were on board, no injuries were reported. Authorities coordinated bus transportation to move passengers to their destinations. Roberto López, president of Tren Patagónico, stated that the service will remain suspended through the weekend as crews work to rebuild the tracks and embankment, with service potentially resuming next week.
