European rail expansion: New high-speed and night train services

European rail connectivity is expanding through new high-speed and night train services. Trenitalia’s Frecciarossa high-speed trains are undergoing testing in Germany to prepare for service between Munich and Italian cities like Milan and Rome. These tests address technical requirements such as power supply, braking systems, and signaling technology. While a full connection from Berlin to Naples is a long-term goal, daily services between Munich and Italy are expected to begin as early as summer 2027.

In a separate development, the provider European Sleeper is launching a new night train service connecting Milan to Brussels via several Swiss stations, including Lugano, Bellinzona, Arth-Goldau, and Aarau. This service offers budget-friendly options starting at approximately 47 Swiss francs.

Meanwhile, Italian rail travelers face disruptions due to a 24-hour nationwide strike by Ferrovie dello Stato staff, which may cause delays and cancellations across the Italian network.
