Trey Mancini announces retirement from professional baseball

MLB veteran Trey Mancini has announced his retirement from professional baseball at age 34. Mancini shared his decision via Instagram, stating, “Thank you, baseball,” and reflecting on a career he described as a “journey of a lifetime.”

Mancini’s career was defined by significant resilience. After being diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer in 2020, he missed the entire season but made an inspiring return in 2021 with the Baltimore Orioles, earning the American League Comeback Player of the Year award. He later helped the Houston Astros win the 2022 World Series.

His final attempt at a comeback occurred with the Los Angeles Angels, where he played five games after a successful stint in Triple-A Salt Lake. He finished his major league career with a .263 batting average, 129 home runs, and 404 RBIs across stints with the Orioles, Astros, Cubs, and Angels.
