Târgu Jiu commemorates 88 years of Constantin Brâncuși's monumental ensemble
Târgu Jiu hosted a series of events to mark the 88th anniversary of the inauguration of the “Calea Eroilor” (Way of the Heroes) Monumental Ensemble, created by sculptor Constantin Brâncuși. A procession involving over 300 participants, including local officials, religious figures, and art enthusiasts, followed a symbolic route from the Table of Silence to the Endless Column.
In conjunction with these commemorations, the “Philosophy of Form” International Conference was held from October 21 to 26. Organized by the “Constantin Brâncuși” University of Târgu Jiu and the local municipality, the conference was held under the patronage of the President of Romania and the Romanian National Commission for UNESCO. The events also included educational activities for students, such as visits to Brâncuși's locations in Hobița and Curtișoara, to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the artist's birth.
The ensemble, which includes works such as the Table of Silence and the Endless Column, was inaugurated on October 27, 1938. In July 2024, Brâncuși's work in Târgu Jiu was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list.
