Târgu Mureș hospital performs complex multi-organ procurement

A complex organ and tissue procurement operation took place on the night of Thursday, August 27, at the Târgu Mureș County Emergency Clinical Hospital. The donor was a 49-year-old patient who had been declared brain dead.

Medical teams from Târgu Mureș, Cluj-Napoca, and Bucharest collaborated on the procedure to harvest the liver, kidneys, cornea, and bone tissue. The harvested components were distributed to various medical centers across Romania:

- The kidneys were sent to the Cluj Institute of Urology and Renal Transplant. - The liver was transported to Sf. Maria Hospital in Bucharest. - The cornea was sent to the Bucharest Clinical Emergency Ophthalmological Hospital. - The bone tissue was provided to the Colentina Tissue Bank.

The bone tissue extraction was performed by the only specialized support team in Romania capable of such procedures, consisting of doctors from the Orthopedics and Traumatology Department of the Târgu Mureș hospital. Hospital representatives expressed gratitude to the patient's family for their decision to donate during a difficult time.
