Inass Touloub parents face trial in France 39 years after death

The trial of Halima El Bakhti and Ahmed Touloub began on November 2 in Blois, France, nearly four decades after the death of their four-year-old daughter, Inass Touloub. The child's body was discovered on August 11, 1987, in a ditch near the A10 motorway in Suèvres.

El Bakhti, 72, is charged with torture and acts of barbarity resulting in death without intent to kill. Touloub, 74, is charged with complicity. Both defendants face the possibility of life imprisonment. During the proceedings, the parents denied responsibility. El Bakhti stated, “no, it is my daughter,” while Touloub claimed, “I did nothing. I never touched any of my children.”

The case remained a cold case for decades, as no missing child report matched the victim. The breakthrough occurred in 2018 when DNA analysis from the victim's brother provided a match to the national genetic database, leading investigators to the parents. Forensic evidence from the original investigation noted extensive injuries, including iron burns and approximately twenty human bite marks.
