Inass Touloub death trial in France

Overview

The trial of Halima El Bakhti and Ahmed Touloub has commenced in the Loir-et-Cher Assize Court in Blois, nearly four decades after the 1987 death of their four-year-old daughter, Inass Touloub. The child’s body was discovered in August 1987 near the A10 motorway. The case remained a cold case for decades until DNA analysis in 2017 and 2018 led investigators to the parents.

El Bakhti, 72, is charged with torture and acts of barbarity resulting in death without intent to kill, while Touloub, 74, faces charges of complicity. Both defendants have denied responsibility. During the proceedings, forensic experts testified that the child suffered extensive injuries, including fractures, burns, and approximately twenty human bite marks. The expert suggested the cause of death may have involved asphyxiation, pulmonary contusion, and significant blood loss, exacerbated by a lack of medical care.

The court session was briefly suspended after El Bakhti collapsed following the presentation of autopsy photographs.
