Triathlete Rachel Furtado dies after sudden medical emergency in Brasília

Rachel Furtado, a 46-year-old entrepreneur and triathlete, died on Saturday, October 12, after suffering a sudden medical emergency while exercising at Parque da Cidade in Brasília.

According to reports, Furtado had completed her training session and was walking toward her car to retrieve her phone when she was found collapsed. Although a physician on-site initiated resuscitation efforts and she briefly regained a pulse following the use of a defibrillator, she suffered subsequent cardiorespiratory arrests during transport to the Hospital Regional da Asa Norte and passed away.

Furtado was a prominent figure in the sports community and served as a partner and Director of Institutional Relations at Instituto Feliciência, an organization focused on mental health and well-being in the workplace. Medical experts noted that her passing highlights the importance of preventive cardiovascular screenings, emphasizing that physical activity does not grant immunity to heart issues and can sometimes act as a trigger for complications in certain individuals.
