Triathlete Rachel Furtado dies after sudden medical emergency in Brasília

Triathlete Rachel Furtado, 46, died after suffering a sudden medical emergency during a training session at Parque da Cidade in Brasília.

According to the Military Firefighters Corps of the Federal District (CBMDF), Furtado was found in cardiopulmonary arrest. Emergency responders performed resuscitation maneuvers for approximately 30 to 50 minutes, successfully stabilizing her vital signs before she was transported to the Hospital Regional da Asa Norte (Hran). However, she suffered subsequent cardiac arrests at the hospital and did not survive.

Furtado was the director of Instituto Feliciência, an organization focused on corporate education and mental health in the workplace. She had been a triathlete for approximately ten years; while she had not participated in official competitions recently, she maintained a rigorous daily routine of running, swimming, weightlifting, and footvolley. She was the niece of the institute's founder, Carla Furtado.
