Triglav glacier in Slovenia has completely disappeared

The Triglav glacier in Slovenia has completely disappeared following years of rapid melting due to rising temperatures and drier conditions. Once covering approximately 50 hectares, the glacier's decline has been documented by researchers from the Anton Melik Geographical Institute of ZRC SAZU.

Nine years ago, measurements indicated that only 0.7 hectares of ice remained, with experts warning of its imminent disappearance. The melting has had practical consequences for mountain infrastructure; for instance, the Triglavski dom at Kredarica faced significant water shortages in 2022, forcing staff and guests to implement strict water conservation measures.
