Trikala police arrest four following electricity leak scam and chase
Police in Trikala, Greece, have arrested four individuals—aged 18, 30, 31, and 32—following an attempted fraud involving a fake electricity leak scam. The suspects allegedly contacted a local man, claiming there was an electrical leak, and instructed him to leave valuables in a bag outside his home for collection.
The victim recognized the scam and alerted authorities. When police intercepted the suspects' vehicle as they arrived to collect the bag, the group attempted to flee. This led to a high-speed chase involving the Meteora Police Station and the DI.AS. unit, which continued through the Mourgiani area and ended at the Longou Trikala tolls, where the vehicle was immobilized.
Authorities seized three mobile phones, 830 euros in cash, and the vehicle used in the crime. The suspects face charges of forming a criminal gang and attempted fraud. Investigations are ongoing to identify an additional unknown accomplice.
