Trinidad and Tobago’s Minister of Foreign and Caricom Affairs, Sean Sobers, arrived in Caracas on September 3 to lead a high-level delegation for bilateral talks with Venezuelan officials. The visit aims to initiate a “new era” in diplomatic relations between the two neighboring nations, following a period of heightened tension that led to the suspension of the Energy Cooperation Framework Agreement last year.

The two governments have established a roadmap for cooperation across several strategic sectors, including energy, trade, agriculture, fisheries, national security, environmental protection, and culture. A primary focus of the discussions is energy security and the potential for renewed collaborative energy initiatives.

In addition to diplomatic discussions, the visit coincided with the arrival of 6.6 tons of humanitarian aid in Venezuela. This shipment, composed of medical supplies, food, and hygiene products, was collected by the Venezuelan Embassy in Trinidad and Tobago and supplemented by a donation of vaccines from the Trinidad and Tobago Ministry of Health. The Venezuelan government expressed gratitude for this support following the earthquakes that occurred on June 24.
