Trinidad and Tobago reports 46% decline in murders

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has reported a significant reduction in violent crime in Trinidad and Tobago, noting a nearly 46% decline in murders over a two-year period. According to official figures, murder counts dropped from 523 in October 2024 to 305 in October 2025, and further down to 280 in October 2026.

The Prime Minister attributed this progress to legislative changes and increased resourcing for protective services, ensuring law enforcement is better equipped to confront criminal elements. While highlighting these results, Persad-Bissessar acknowledged that work remains to be done, stating that every life lost to crime is too many and that the government remains committed to restoring public safety.
