Trinidad and Tobago's National Gas Company Secures Beachfield Site to Push Manatee Gas Project

Gerald Ramdeen, chairman of the National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago (NGC), said the former government’s policies crippled the country’s downstream energy sector, forcing NGC to compete for gas supplies and to seek new upstream and downstream investments.

Following a ceremony by the Ministry of Land and Legal Affairs, NGC was handed the title deed for the Beachfield gas‑processing facility in Guayaguayare. The transfer resolves a decades‑long land‑ownership dispute and clears the way for the Manatee offshore gas development, a major project led by Shell Trinidad. Manatee, discovered in 2005 as part of the trans‑border Loran‑Manatee field shared with Venezuela, holds about 10 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. Production is slated to begin in 2027, supplying the domestic market and generating foreign‑exchange earnings for Trinidad and Tobago.
