Trinidad and Tobago natural gas development
Overview
Trinidad and Tobago is advancing several natural gas development projects to bolster domestic supply and export capacity. The National Gas Company (NGC) has secured the title deed for the Beachfield gas-processing facility in Guayaguayare, resolving a long-standing land dispute. This acquisition facilitates the Manatee offshore gas development, a project led by Shell Trinidad involving the trans-border Loran-Manatee field shared with Venezuela. Production for the Manatee project is expected to begin in 2027.
In a separate development, the NGC has agreed to purchase a 20% stake from BP in the Trinidad portion of the Cocuina-Manakin natural gas field. This cross-border field, which straddles the maritime boundary between Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela, contains an estimated 1 trillion cubic feet of reserves. The project aims to supply Atlantic LNG and the petrochemical sector, addressing recent output constraints caused by declining domestic gas supplies.
