During Ben Shelton’s first-round match against Tallon Griekspoor, cameras focused on Rodman in the stands at Arthur Ashe Stadium. The ESPN broadcast described her as “also known as Ben Shelton’s girlfriend, and also known as a member of the US women’s national team,” while an on-screen graphic labeled her as “Ben’s girlfriend & USWNT player.”

Social media users expressed frustration with the presentation, arguing that Rodman’s professional achievements—including being an Olympic gold medalist and a prominent NWSL player—should have been prioritized over her personal relationship. Critics noted that the order of her credentials undermined her status as a professional athlete.
