Tripleshot CrossFondo returns to Saanich Peninsula with new safety plan

The Tripleshot CrossFondo, Greater Victoria’s mass-participation off-road cycling event, is returning to the Saanich Peninsula on October 18 following a one-year hiatus. More than 300 cyclists are registered for the 45-kilometre and 25-kilometre distances.

The event was previously cancelled due to safety concerns following the 2024 death of two-time provincial cyclocross champion Lindsay Burgess, who was struck by a truck during the race. In response, organizers have collaborated with ISL Engineering and Land Services to implement a new traffic safety plan.

Improvements include adding chutes to narrow paths to force riders to slow down before intersections. While 80 per cent of the route utilizes trails and private property, cyclists will cross public roadways in Saanich between 9:10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Paid traffic control staff will manage major intersections, and riders are required to follow standard rules of the road.
