Tripleshot CrossFondo cycling event return

Overview

The Tripleshot CrossFondo, a mass-participation off-road cycling event in the Saanich Peninsula, returned on October 18 following a one-year hiatus. The event had previously been cancelled due to safety concerns after the 2024 death of provincial cyclocross champion Lindsay Burgess, who was struck by a truck during a race.

To address these concerns, organizers implemented a new traffic safety plan in collaboration with ISL Engineering and Land Services. This plan included adding chutes to narrow paths to slow riders and employing paid traffic control staff at major intersections. Approximately 80 per cent of the route utilizes trails and private property to minimize roadway exposure.

The 10th annual event saw 290 participants, aged 11 to 81, completing either 25-kilometre or 45-kilometre routes. Designed as a community ride rather than a competitive race, the event serves as the Tripleshot Cycling Club’s largest annual fundraiser, supporting grassroots programs and youth cycling coaching.
