Tripura government changes job residency rules amid alliance talks

The Tripura government has sparked controversy by withdrawing the mandatory Permanent Resident of Tripura Certificate (PRTC) for state government job recruitment. Under the new rule, applicants must instead demonstrate five years of continuous schooling within the state. This decision follows a High Court directive to reconsider the requirement. Opposition parties, including the CPI(M) and Congress, have demanded a rollback, arguing the change allows candidates from neighboring states like West Bengal, Assam, and Bihar to compete for local jobs.

Separately, Chief Minister Manik Saha indicated that negotiations continue regarding a potential alliance between the BJP and the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) for the upcoming village committee elections in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council.
