Tripura CM Manik Saha addresses fiscal gaps and infrastructure plans

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has addressed several key state issues, including fiscal concerns, infrastructure, and social welfare. Saha reported that Northeastern states have collectively raised concerns with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman regarding the withdrawal of the revenue gap fund following recommendations from the 16th Finance Commission. Tripura anticipates an annual shortfall of approximately Rs 4,000 crore due to this change, which could total Rs 20,000 crore over five years. While the central government has introduced the ‘Pride of Hills’ fund, officials suggest it may not fully compensate for the loss.

On infrastructure, the Chief Minister announced plans for two new bypass roads in Tripura: the Agartala Bypass (Western Branch) and the Agartala Eastern Bypass. These four-lane projects aim to reduce traffic congestion within Agartala city.

Additionally, Saha reaffirmed the state's commitment to a drug-free Tripura, echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address. He also highlighted government efforts toward socio-economic development, including job distribution and training programs for women under the ‘Mukhyamantri Dakhyata Unnayan Prakalpa’ scheme.
