Tripura CM Manik Saha threatens fines and utility cuts for illegal waste dumping

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha told participants at a one‑day statewide workshop on waste management in Agartala that dumping garbage indiscriminately will attract penalties. He said District Magistrates have the authority to impose fines and may even disconnect electricity and water supplies for violators.

Saha framed clean‑environment rights as part of the constitutional right to life and called for a public movement involving families, institutions and citizens. He urged municipal officials to raise awareness, emphasized the mandatory user charge for garbage collection, and highlighted the state’s "Amar Sarkar" app, which has been praised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
