Tripura expands dairy cooperation and pineapple cultivation to boost rural economy

The Tripura government signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding with the National Dairy Development Board and the Gomati Co‑operative Milk Producers' Union. The agreement, witnessed by Chief Minister Manik Saha and NDDB Chairman Meenesh Shah, aims to modernise the state's dairy cooperative sector, increase milk production and improve the livelihoods of thousands of dairy farmers.

In a separate initiative, Tripura Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath announced plans to expand the cultivation of the Queen pineapple from 12,000 to 15,000 hectares over the next three years. The programme includes establishing two bromelain extraction centres in Agartala and Gomati district and is supported by a Rs 234‑crore project to strengthen marketing, processing, branding and export infrastructure. Both moves are intended to enhance value‑addition, raise farmer incomes and drive broader rural economic growth in the northeastern state.
