Tripura expands mango cultivation with 55‑hectare initiative
Tripura Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath announced a plan to add 55 hectares of mango orchards in the Dhalai district’s Gandatwisa sub‑division during the Monsoon Mango Festival 2026. The scheme includes financial assistance for rejuvenating old orchards, new deep‑irrigation facilities, and five additional cold‑storage chambers to help farmers preserve produce. Around 259 growers will benefit, with the aim of doubling farmer incomes and boosting the region’s reputation for high‑yield mango varieties – productivity in Gandatwisa already reaches about nine metric tonnes per hectare, compared with the state average of five. The minister also highlighted infrastructure upgrades such as homestays and tourism promotion to turn the Dumboor area into a horticultural and tourist hub.
