Tripura increases security ahead of Village Committee elections

Preparations for the upcoming Village Committee (VC) elections in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) have led to increased security measures and local unrest. Police have cancelled all leave for Tripura State Rifles personnel and placed police stations in TTAADC areas on high alert to manage potential tension as campaigning approaches.

Political activity is intensifying across the region. In Jubarajnagar, Congress candidates have begun filing nomination papers in the Madhuban and Balidhum villages. Meanwhile, the CPI(M) has alleged that its candidates are facing threats and pressure to refrain from filing nominations, prompting the party to request the deployment of central forces to ensure peace.

Local civic issues have also surfaced amid the electoral period. In Gandacherra, residents staged a road blockade on the Gandacherra-Raishyabari road to protest an acute drinking water shortage caused by a defunct pump. The protest was resolved after officials promised immediate repairs.
