Tripura schedules Village Committee elections for September 28

The State Election Commission (SEC) has announced the schedule for Village Committee elections under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). Polling is set to take place on September 28, with vote counting beginning at 7:00 AM on October 5 and the process concluding by October 8.

The elections will cover 587 village committees, encompassing 2,634 constituencies and 4,597 seats. A formal notification is scheduled for release on September 1. The nomination period will remain open until September 8, followed by scrutiny on September 9 and the deadline for withdrawals on September 11.

Approximately 961,977 voters are eligible to participate. These elections follow a delay since the previous committees completed their terms in March 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and various legal issues. To manage the process, District Magistrates will serve as District Election Officers, while 52 Block Development Officers will act as returning officers. Around 8,500 polling personnel are expected to be deployed to ensure the elections are conducted smoothly.
