Tripura signs 40-year hydropower deal as CM pledges development to make state NE hub

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha said the state and its capital Agartala will occupy a special place in the North‑East because of rapid development and the preservation of religious sites. Speaking at the inauguration of the Shib Bari Water Reservoir Development and Beautification Project on 12 July 2026, he highlighted the government's focus on infrastructure, tourism and faith‑based projects and noted that the recent two‑day investor summit attracted about 1,200 delegates, generating investment proposals worth roughly Rs 1.21 lakh crore against a target of Rs 1 lakh crore.

During the Destination Tripura Business Conclave on 10 July 2026, Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited signed a 40‑year Power Purchase Agreement with NHPC Limited to procure electricity from the upcoming 1,720 MW Kamala Hydroelectric Project in Arunachal Pradesh. The pact aims to secure affordable, reliable and clean power for the state, strengthen long‑term energy security and support industrial and commercial growth.
