Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha Announces Rs 726 crore Tea Investment at Business Conclave

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha hosted the 69th "Mukhyamantri Samipeshu" programme, using the event to promote the upcoming Destination Tripura Business Conclave 2026. He said the two‑day summit, slated for July 9‑10 at the Hapania International Fair Ground, aims to attract about Rs 1 lakh crore in investment proposals from Indian and foreign investors.

At the conclave, the Tripura Tea Development Corporation announced memoranda of understanding worth Rs 726 crore for the state's tea sector, the largest single‑industry commitment to date. Chairman Samir Ranjan Ghosh said the funding will generate roughly 4,000 direct and indirect jobs and described the deal as "the tea sector in Tripura is witnessing such a large‑scale investment for the first time." Investors include Monoworld Recycling (Rs 100 crore), Itibachak Barta Foundation (Rs 100 crore), Infidirect Tech Solutions (Rs 26 crore) and NDR Infrastructure (Rs 500 crore).

Separately, residents of Dharmanagar, the district headquarters of North Tripura, lodged protests over the town's severely deteriorated roads, which they called "death traps." Citizens complain that potholes and water‑filled craters endanger commuters, traders, students and patients, while blaming the Public Works Department for neglect and alleged financial irregularities. Civic groups are demanding urgent repairs and an investigation into the department's handling of road maintenance.
