Voting is underway across Tripura for the election of representatives to 587 Gram Committees under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). The elections are being held in the state's Sixth Schedule areas, which cover approximately two-thirds of the state's geographic area.
For the 4,597 total seats within these committees, 1,644 candidates from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Tipra Motha Party (TMP) have already been elected unopposed. On Monday, voters are casting ballots for the remaining 2,950 seats. Major political parties participating in the contest include the BJP, Tipra Motha Party, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Congress, and the Indigenous Peoples' Front of Tripura (IPFT), with a total of 8,176 candidates fielding for positions.
Polling began early in the morning across 1,095 polling stations. Officials report that the process is proceeding peacefully under heavy security deployment, including the presence of central security forces in sensitive areas. The results of the election are scheduled to be announced on October 5.
