Trisat-S satellite successfully launched into orbit from Norway

The Slovenian satellite Trisat-S was successfully launched into orbit on Saturday night from the Andøya Spaceport in Norway. The satellite was carried by the Spectrum rocket, developed by the German company Isar Aerospace, as part of the ‘Forward and Upward’ mission.

Trisat-S was developed through a collaboration between the University of Maribor and the company Skylabs. Over the next five years, the satellite will serve as a long-term technological demonstrator to test essential capabilities for small spacecraft with limited energy resources.

This launch marks a significant milestone for Isar Aerospace, which has become the first European commercial space company to successfully launch a satellite into orbit. The 28-meter-tall Spectrum rocket successfully deployed five commercial cubesats and one educational nanosatellite. According to Isar Aerospace CEO Daniel Metzler, the achievement provides a commercial alternative for European clients and establishes sovereign access to space for the continent.
