Triton Aviation jet loses door mid-air during Abuja-Lagos flight
A Triton Aviation Bombardier Challenger 604, registered in San Marino, experienced a mid-air emergency on Thursday after a cabin door detached while flying from Abuja to Lagos. The incident occurred at an altitude of approximately 3,000 to 3,500 feet, roughly three nautical miles from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
The flight crew issued a ‘Mayday’ distress call, prompting air traffic controllers to direct the aircraft back to Abuja. Following the emergency, the aircraft landed safely on Runway 22. All nine people on board, including six passengers and three crew members, were reported safe and uninjured.
The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has launched a formal investigation to determine the cause of the door separation. The NSIB confirmed that the detached door has been recovered and secured at its wreckage hangar for examination. Local reports indicated that the missing component was discovered by farmers on a field on the outskirts of Abuja.
