Triton Aviation mid-air door detachment in Nigeria

Overview

On October 15, 2026, a Triton Aviation Bombardier Challenger 604 private jet experienced a mid-air emergency when its cabin door detached while flying from Abuja to Lagos. The incident occurred at an altitude of approximately 3,000 feet.

The flight crew issued a ‘Mayday’ distress call, and the aircraft was directed back to Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja. The plane landed safely on Runway 22, with all nine people on board—six passengers and three crew members—reported safe and uninjured.

The detached door was recovered from agricultural land on the outskirts of Abuja. Investigations into the cause of the separation have been launched by the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority.
