Türkiye hits record solar and wind power generation

Türkiye reached a historic milestone in renewable energy production in August, with combined solar and wind electricity generation hitting a record 9.9 billion kilowatt-hours. Solar power contributed 5.16 billion kilowatt-hours (14.1% of total generation), while wind power provided 4.74 billion kilowatt-hours (12.9% of total generation).

Total electricity generation for the month stood at 36.71 billion kilowatt-hours. Hydropower remains the country’s largest single source, accounting for 24.7% of total generation with 9.08 billion kilowatt-hours produced. Overall, renewable energy sources accounted for 56.4% of the total electricity generated in August.

Data for the first eight months of the year also showed record-breaking trends. From January to August, hydropower, wind, and solar generation each reached their highest production levels for that specific period since 2000. During this timeframe, renewable sources accounted for 60.3% of total electricity, while domestic sources contributed 73.2%.
