Türkiye plans $28 billion electricity transmission investment by 2035
Türkiye plans to invest $28 billion in electricity transmission infrastructure by 2035 to support its renewable energy goals. According to Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar, the plan includes the construction of 9,580 kilometers of high-voltage direct current (HVDC) energy corridors with a 28 GW capacity, alongside 15,000 kilometers of new alternating current transmission lines.
This transmission expansion is intended to support a broader renewable energy roadmap that targets 120 GW of installed capacity from wind and solar, which requires an estimated $80 billion in separate production investments. The International Energy Agency (IEA) has noted that grid connection delays and transmission bottlenecks can hinder solar and wind investments, suggesting the need for flexible connection agreements and improved balancing markets.
In tandem with these infrastructure developments, the renewable energy share of Türkiye’s installed capacity reached 62.8% as of July 2026. Companies like Uludağ Elektrik are supporting this transition by providing renewable energy certificates, such as I-REC and YEK-G, which allow businesses to certify and track their electricity consumption from renewable sources to meet sustainability targets.
