Türkiye energy transition and renewable investment
Overview
Türkiye is implementing a long-term energy transition strategy aimed at reducing coal’s share in electricity production by 2055. To manage this shift, the government has introduced a National Just Transition Strategy to address employment and regional development in coal-dependent sectors. Financing for the transition includes a model centered on bilateral Power Purchase Agreements to attract private investment.
To support renewable energy goals, Türkiye plans to invest $28 billion in electricity transmission infrastructure by 2035. This includes constructing high-voltage direct current energy corridors and new alternating current transmission lines to accommodate a target of 120 GW of wind and solar capacity. As of July 2026, the renewable energy share of the country’s installed capacity reached 62.8%.
