Turkey records 4.1 billion dollar current account surplus in August

Turkey recorded a current account surplus of 4.1 billion dollars in August 2026, according to data from the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey. When excluding gold and energy, the surplus reached 8.2 billion dollars. The annualized current account deficit stands at 42.1 billion dollars.

Trade Minister Ömer Bolat reported that total goods and services exports rose by 3.8 percent year-on-year to 405.3 billion dollars. Service exports reached 125.1 billion dollars, driven largely by travel revenues of 60.1 billion dollars and transportation revenues of 44.3 billion dollars.

Hazine and Maliye Minister Mehmet Şimşek noted that the current account deficit remains at manageable levels despite global risks. He highlighted the strategic importance of reducing energy dependency, noting that energy imports over the last 26 years have totaled 1.1 trillion dollars. The government aims to reach a total goods and services export target of 450 billion dollars under the 2027-2029 Medium-Term Program.
