Turkey export surge extends to agriculture and logistics
Entities: Turkey · China · Republic of Turkey · Nevşehir Province · Germany
Overview
July‑2026 data confirm that Turkey’s export momentum is deepening across food, machinery, defence, electronics and transport infrastructure. Overall export value rose to $136.1 billion in the first half of 2026, with the Ankara region accounting for more than 40 % of the increase – its export volume jumped 27.5 % to $9.1 billion. Electronics grew 65.7 % to exceed $1 billion, automotive rose 30.7 % to $1.01 billion, and defence‑aviation made up 29.5 % of Ankara’s basket, underscoring a high‑technology focus. Top destinations from Ankara include the United States, Slovakia, the United Kingdom, Ukraine and China.
In agriculture, citrus shipments reached 807,114 tonnes worth $911 million, led by mandarins ($532 million) and sold primarily to Iraq, Russia and Ukraine. Sea‑snail exports climbed 69 % to $9.1 million, with Spain, South Korea and China as main markets. Dried‑tomato exports generated $60.9 million from 18,301 tonnes shipped to 91 countries; the United States remained the largest buyer, followed by Italy and the United Kingdom, and the sector aims for $100 million by year‑end.
The electricity and electronics sector posted a record $9.1 billion in exports (up 9.8 %), while machinery exports held steady at $13.8 billion, driven by turbines, turbo‑jets and hydraulic cylinders (+25.6 %).
June‑2026 provisional data showed exports of $24.9 billion against imports of $35.3 billion, expanding the monthly trade deficit to $10.4 billion (up 26.2 % YoY). Manufacturing supplied 93.7 % of export value, with high‑technology products accounting for 4.4 % of that share. Germany was the top export market. Nevşehir province recorded a modest $33 million trade surplus, outperforming neighboring regions.
Coverage disagrees
Sources make claims that cannot both be true. CLSTR reports the disagreement; it does not decide who is right.
-
"Exports in June 2026 were $24.915 bn." (TÜİK data)
vs
"Total trade volume in June 2026 was $51.318 bn, up 23.8 % YoY." (ff0ba795-ba05-444a-9e73-f84196f9ba0a, a555cd2f-8303-4d08-b1b6-951ca7c464cb)
If exports were $24.915 bn and total trade volume was $51.318 bn, the total cannot be less than the sum of exports and imports, so these two figures cannot both be correct.
-
"June 2026 imports were $35.285 billion, a 23 % year‑on‑year increase." (Turkey's official trade statistics)
vs
"Total trade volume in June 2026 was $51.318 bn, up 23.8 % YoY." (ff0ba795-ba05-444a-9e73-f84196f9ba0a, a555cd2f-8303-4d08-b1b6-951ca7c464cb)
Given imports of $35.285 bn, a total trade volume of $51.318 bn would require exports of only $16.033 bn, contradicting the claim that exports were $24.915 bn.
