Turkey announces Moon mission progress and Somali spaceport at IAC

At the 77th International Astronautical Congress (IAC) in Antalya, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and government officials announced several major milestones for Turkey’s space program. Key developments include the completion of the production, assembly, and integration of the Moon Space Vehicle, which has an over 80 percent domestic production rate. Additionally, Erdoğan announced that construction has begun on a spaceport in Somalia.

Regarding satellite technology, Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu stated that the contract for the Türksat 7A communication satellite is expected to be finalized in November, with production following shortly after. In the commercial sector, TUSAŞ and ROKETSAN signed agreements for the HÜRSAT satellite family, which is designed for mass production to meet diverse mission needs.

On the international stage, President Erdoğan met with senior SpaceX executives Rebecca Hunter and Michael Nicolls to discuss cooperation. The congress also featured participation from major global agencies including NASA, ESA, and JAXA, with NASA officials outlining the Artemis program's roadmap for lunar landings and future Mars exploration.
