Turkey Türksat 7A satellite development
Overview
Turkey is advancing the development of its Türksat 7A satellite. Initially, TÜRKSAT officials reported that preparations had reached the final stages, with the company expected to sign agreements to initiate production soon.
Following this, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu confirmed that technical specifications for the Türksat 7A have been finalized. Production was projected to begin before the end of the year, involving discussions with Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ), TÜBİTAK, and a private firm. The domestically produced satellite was expected to launch within the next few years. In a related development, the Minister also noted an agreement with Qatar regarding satellite services for a satellite named ‘Türksat Biruni’.
At the 77th International Astronautical Congress in Antalya, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan outlined broader strategic space objectives, including a planned lunar mission. He noted that Turkey has become capable of designing, producing, and operating its own satellites, citing the success of the İMECE, GÖKTÜRK, and TÜRKSAT 6A projects.
Minister Uraloğlu provided an updated timeline for the Türksat 7A, stating that preparations are nearly complete and the production process is expected to begin by November 2026. This follows the conclusion of contract negotiations with partners such as TUSAŞ and TÜBİTAK. The 7A satellite is intended to expand communication capacity and replace the aging Türksat 3A.
During the same congress, President Erdoğan announced that the Moon Space Vehicle has completed production, assembly, and integration, boasting an “over 80 percent domestic production rate.” He also noted that construction has commenced on a spaceport in Somalia.
Regarding the Türksat 7A, Minister Uraloğlu stated that the contract is expected to be finalized in November, with production to follow shortly thereafter. Additionally, TUSAŞ and ROKETSAN signed agreements for the HÜRSAT satellite family, intended for mass production to meet various mission requirements.
