Tropea highlighted in Lonely Planet guide as cultural tourism gem

The newest Lonely Planet guide to Calabria features the coastal town of Tropea, showcasing its historic centre, scenic cliffs and local character. A dedicated "I live here" section presents the story of Chiara Condò, owner of the Pensiero Meridiano bookshop, who is listed in the Ministry of Culture’s register of quality libraries.

Mayor Giovanni Macrì welcomed the inclusion, saying it confirms Tropea’s ability to attract visitors seeking authentic experiences beyond the beach. He added, “It is also daily encouragement not to spare any effort in the complex recovery of the administration, especially during the summer emergency caused by the lingering slowdown of municipal services after two years of commissariat.”

Condò described her daily routine, noting, “Every morning, before opening the shop, I spend ten minutes on the balcony overlooking Roccette beach – there all battles stop for me. Living in Tropea is a privilege, and being its librarian places me at the centre of every story the tourists bring through my door.”

The guide’s coverage emphasizes Tropea’s blend of bustling summer life, quiet off‑season ambience and resilient community, reinforcing its image as a standout destination in Calabria.
