Tropical Storm Vance forms in the Pacific, projected to become a Category 3 hurricane

Tropical Storm Vance formed in the Pacific Ocean on Wednesday, October 21, evolving from Tropical Depression 22-E. The system was located approximately 835 kilometers south of Acapulco, Guerrero, and 1,170 kilometers south-southeast of Manzanillo, Colima.

Meteorological agencies, including Mexico’s National Meteorological Service (SMN) and the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC), forecast rapid intensification. Projections suggest Vance could reach Category 1 hurricane status by Friday, October 23, and potentially escalate to a major Category 3 hurricane by Saturday, October 24, with sustained winds potentially exceeding 178 kilometers per hour.

While the storm's current trajectory is expected to keep its center over open waters without a direct landfall in Mexico, authorities have warned of indirect effects. These include increased humidity, heavy rainfall in southern and western states such as Guerrero, Michoacán, Colima, and Jalisco, as well as dangerous swells and rip currents along the Pacific coastline through the upcoming week.
