Tropical Depression Eighteen-E forms off Mexico's southern coast

Tropical Depression Eighteen-E has formed in the Pacific Ocean, moving parallel to the southern coast of Mexico. As of Sunday morning, the system was located approximately 435 kilometers south-southwest of Lagunas de Chacahua, Oaxaca, and 490 kilometers south-southeast of Acapulco, Guerrero.

The depression is moving west-northwest at 17 kilometers per hour, with maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour and gusts reaching 75 kilometers per hour. The system is expected to bring heavy rainfall, significant winds, and high surf to the region.

In Oaxaca, rainfall accumulations of 75 to 150 millimeters are forecast for the southern, eastern, and southeastern zones, with waves reaching heights of 3 to 5 meters. In Guerrero, rainfall of 50 to 75 millimeters is expected in the southern and southeastern strips, accompanied by wind gusts up to 70 kilometers per hour and waves between 2 and 3 meters. Civil Protection authorities have warned of risks including urban flooding, river overflows, and landslides in mountainous areas.
