Vietnam weather: Heavy rain and flood risks across Northern and Central regions

Vietnam is experiencing widespread heavy rainfall and storm-related weather across Northern and Central regions. A tropical depression has weakened into a low-pressure area over western Quang Tri province, but its circulation continues to trigger intense precipitation. Forecasts indicate that rainfall in areas from Thanh Hoa to Northern Quang Tri could exceed 500mm, with significant risks of flash floods, landslides, and localized flooding in low-lying areas.

In Hanoi, the weather is expected to remain cloudy with heavy rain and thunderstorms, causing temperatures to drop by 3-4 degrees Celsius. In Quang Tri, Hue, Da Nang, and Quang Ngai, flooding has already been recorded, with hundreds of households displaced and several barges swept away by rising river levels. In Thanh Hoa, authorities have issued warnings for potential flash floods and landslides as soil saturation levels approach capacity.

In southern regions, including Can Tho, high tides have caused significant urban flooding, with water levels exceeding Alarm Level III. Meanwhile, in the North, meteorological experts predict a period of continuous rain lasting through September 17, followed by potential cooler weather as a cold air mass approaches later in the month.
