Vietnam flooding: Heavy rain impacts Hanoi, Ninh Binh, and Nghe An
Heavy rainfall and rising floodwaters have caused significant disruption across Northern and North Central Vietnam. In Hanoi, widespread flooding has affected major streets in western and central districts, leading several schools to switch to online learning or cancel classes to ensure student safety.
In Ninh Binh, the Hoang Long and Day rivers have reached critical levels, with the Hoang Long river exceeding Alarm Level 3. This has caused flooding in low-lying areas and impacted schools, including Kênh Gà Kindergarten and Gia Viễn Primary School.
Nghe An and Thanh Hoa provinces are also facing severe weather. In Nghe An, floodwaters have damaged the road surface on the Khe Da Han bridge on National Highway 48E. Authorities have also reported the rescue of residents after boats were swept away by currents. In Thanh Hoa, the Buoi River has swelled, flooding homes and agricultural fields.
Meteorological forecasts indicate that while heavy rain in the Northern region, Thanh Hoa, and Nghe An is expected to decrease gradually starting September 18, risks of flash floods, landslides, and lightning remain high in mountainous areas.
