Tropical Storm Kiyapo Hits Northern Philippines, Causes Floods

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 for Batanes and parts of Cagayan as Tropical Storm Kiyapo intensified, with sustained winds of 65 km/h and gusts up to 80 km/h. The storm made landfall on Friday, July 24, on Camiguin Island in Cagayan province at 2:10 p.m., reaching maximum sustained winds of 85 km/h and gusts of 115 km/h before moving west‑northwestward and expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility the following morning.

Heavy rainfall associated with Kiyapo and the enhanced southwest monsoon triggered flooding in 43 barangays of Iloilo City, displacing 124 families (about 482 people) and forcing residents into eight evacuation centers. Authorities reported flood depths of up to 40 inches in some districts and activated a blue alert. The city prepared food packs and relief supplies for affected families while monitoring further rain and wind impacts across several northern Luzon provinces.
