Tropical disturbance 91W monitored for potential development into Typhoon Surigae

A tropical disturbance designated as 91W, which could potentially develop into Typhoon Surigae, is being closely monitored by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC). Located southwest of Guam, the disturbance is moving through favorable conditions, including high sea surface temperatures of 29–30 degrees Celsius and low vertical wind shear.

The JTWC has increased the probability of the disturbance developing into a significant tropical depression within 24 hours to ‘High’. Current models suggest the system will move northwest toward the waters between Taiwan and Okinawa.

Meteorologists are watching the system's path near Okinawa, as its eventual direction depends on the position of the North Pacific High and atmospheric troughs. Depending on these factors, the disturbance could head toward eastern China, turn toward Japan, or potentially become the first autumn typhoon to approach the Korean Peninsula this year.
