Tropical Storm Cristobal dissipates in the Atlantic

Tropical Storm Cristobal, the third named system of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season, formed in the central Atlantic and has since weakened. Moving eastward toward the Azores, the storm encountered unfavorable conditions, including cold waters, dry air, and strong wind shear, leading to its dissipation as a tropical system.

Meteorological agencies in Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Mexico confirmed that Cristobal posed no threat to their territories due to its remote position and eastward trajectory. While the storm dissipated, forecasters are closely monitoring two additional tropical waves in the Atlantic. One system, located west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands, has an 80% chance of developing into a tropical depression or named storm, potentially called Dolly. A second, less organized wave is also being tracked near the African coast.
