Atlantic tropical cyclone development monitoring
Overview
Tropical Storm Cristobal has dissipated after moving eastward toward the Azores. The system, the third named storm of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season, weakened due to unfavorable conditions including cold waters, dry air, and strong wind shear.
Meteorological agencies in Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Mexico confirmed that the storm posed no threat to their territories because of its remote position and eastward trajectory.
Forecasters continue to monitor two additional tropical waves in the Atlantic. One system, located west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands, has an 80% chance of developing into a tropical depression or named storm, potentially named Dolly. A second, less organized wave is also being tracked near the African coast.
