Tropical Storm Edouard triggers flooding and rescues in East Texas

Tropical Storm Edouard caused significant flooding and damage across East Texas and parts of Louisiana after making landfall near the state border. In Hardin County, rainfall totals reached between 18 and 20 inches, far exceeding the local monthly average for September. Emergency responders rescued dozens of people from stranded vehicles, homes, and an assisted living facility. The storm also caused power outages, downed trees, and structural damage, with Jefferson County reporting approximately 22,000 customers without electricity following wind gusts of up to 90 mph.

Simultaneously, a major heat wave impacted much of the United States. Heat alerts affected over 96 million people, with record-breaking temperatures reported in cities such as St. Louis, Raleigh, Tuscaloosa, and Chattanooga. In the Midwest and Missouri Valley, heat index values reached as high as 110 degrees, leaving millions under extreme heat warnings.
