Tropical Storm Fay moves through open Atlantic

Tropical Storm Fay is currently moving westward in the open Atlantic. As of late September 2026, the storm is not expected to impact land, with forecasts suggesting it may lose its tropical characteristics over the upcoming weekend.

Separately, a tropical rainstorm has formed off the west coast of Africa, southeast of the Cabo Verde Islands. This system is expected to drift northward toward the islands, potentially intensifying into a tropical depression or storm. Regardless of its development, the Cabo Verde Islands are expected to experience gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall. The storm is projected to weaken as it moves into a less favorable environment north of the islands later this weekend.
