Tropical Storm Iselle weakening in the East Pacific

Tropical Storm Iselle is weakening as it moves west-northwest across the East Pacific. The National Hurricane Center reports that the system is facing increased wind shear, cooler sea surface temperatures, and dry air, which are causing the low-level center to become exposed and deep convection to displace.

While the storm is far from Hawaii and poses no direct threat to the islands, it is expected to become a post-tropical cyclone by tonight. The system is forecast to gradually dissipate over the next few days.

Although the storm is weakening, swells generated by Iselle continue to affect the west coast of the Baja California Peninsula. Forecasters warn that these swells may cause ‘life-threatening surf and rip current conditions’ in that region for several days.
